More green bin collection woes

by Lib Dem team on 17 June, 2021

More green bin collections were missed across the area this week, with further missed collections expected in coming weeks. The problem is down to illness and self-isolation in bin crews.

If your bin is missed, it probably won’t be collected until the following week. You can check here.

If your bin is missed but your road isn’t on the council list, you should report it the next day using the form at the bottom of the council web page.

“We would like to thank the bin crews for their hard work during the pandemic, and we wish all unwell bin operatives a speedy recovery,” said Cllr Keith Holloway. “But we are concerned that, with over a year to prepare, Stockport’s Labour administration hasn’t come up with a Plan B for bin collection. As a result, some people are seeing green bins unemptied for weeks on end in hot weather.”

I tend to be around when our bins are emptied and quite frankly you couldn’t get a better group of people emptying the bins. All credit to them. They work so hard, often running to keep up with lorry. It’s not their fault bins are missed. It is somebody in Stockport monitoring the vehicles progress throughout the day who instructs them on which roads to cover or miss.

I agree with the comments about the hard work of the refuse collectors. However, as was mentioned last previously, surely if a missed collection cannot be avoided, the green bin should be prioritised over brown or blue, because the green bin is likely to contain rotting food waste that can attract vermin.
