Report back from Cheadle Area Committee, 22 June 2021

by Lib Dem team on 22 June, 2021

Cheadle Area Committee was held at 6pm on Tuesday 22 June 2021 at the town hall.

Here’s what’s we discussed and decided:

  • Inspector Rob Hawksley from the local police gave us a briefing. He said that after a series of arrests of burglars in May, burglaries have nosedived, with just 3 in June so far (3 too many, but much less than previous months). There have been a series of catalytic converter thefts, but those seem to be reduced too, after arrests. Inspector Hawksley also spoke about the armed robbery at the weekend, and a number of other issues.
  • A petition was presented from residents on New Hey Road asking the council to investigate residents’ parking. We’re happy to agree and we’ve asked the council to start work.
  • Application by Drawing Board Productions CIC for £700 towards the new Cheadle Post community newspaper was approved
  • Planning application DC/077459 to develop Belmont Care Home on Schools Hill into apartments and town houses. The application will be decided by the Planning & Highways committee. We recommended the application be granted, but criticised the developer for failing to properly secure the site, leading to vandalism and theft on the site in recent weeks.
  • Proposal to install 5 wooden posts along the verge on Oakmere Road, Cheadle Hulme to stop HGVs running over the verge was approved.
  • Consideration of objections to the proposals for Ashfield Road/Ashfield Crescent – all around the loss of parking spaces. We looked at the concerns but decided to push ahead. The scheme is aimed at getting more people walking and cycling in the area, especially to Cheadle Primary, and it’s important to make the roads and parking safer.

    Grasmere Road, Gatley
I see red marks around some of the holes so something seems to be planned, good. But so many other holes and bumps along there have not been marked. I hope that the repairs will not be just a few fill-ins.The whole road on the first bend (coming from St Anns direction) badly needs a full resurface.

What about people who can’t walk from the car park.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Denise, people can stop right by the side of the Doctors surgery and the side of the school.

  3. MOIRA BOWERS says:

Where are the people who currently park in Ashfield road going to park? Have you designated an alternative area otherwise this will impact AGAIN in avenues/side roads creating problems for residents.

    • Iain Roberts says:

Hi Moira – most of the parking on Ashfield Road remains – we’re losing a small number of spaces because they’re not safe. There’s capacity in Massie Street Car Park, and we also know that some people change their habits and leave the car at home in response to these sorts of changes.
