The Lib Dem team are asking road users to be careful around Cheadle and Gatley.
Drivers of cars and other motor vehicles, please keep to the speed limit in the villages (30mph or 20mph) and look out for other road users. Motor vehicle drivers are in charge of 1.5 tonnes of metal or more.
Cyclists please slow down around pedestrians.
All road users please follow the law and the highway code.
“We would like to thank the vast majority of road users who drive, cycle and scoot responsibly,” said Cllr Iain Roberts

I’m sure you didnt intend it, but I feel patronised. I really don’t need to be urged to follow legal speed limits or drive with the care the law requires.
How vain of you to think that this is about you or directed at you. Isnt it obvious that there are drivers or cyclists who break the law adown the high street and this is directed at them?
Hi John
I promise the message isn’t aimed at people who already follow the rules. If all drivers followed your example, we would have a lot less work to do as councillors.
Cyclists slowing down around pedestrians! What a joke! What about the huge number of cyclists who insist on riding on the pavement. These are not young children but 12+ years old who should know better. If you tell them that they shouldn’t be riding on the pavement, a mouthful of abuse is the usual response.
Well said Jennifer!!! How about cyclists who don’t stop ar traffic light or at the pedestrian crossing!!!
Why can’t cyclist have have a form of ID.
Quite right – compulsory insurance (third party at the very least) and proof of a cycling ‘proficiency’ test as well.
Surprised there’s no mention of escooters. Saw one recently.
Travelled the length of the High St. weaved among pedestrians, regardless of their direction of travel! Had I been walking I would have tried to engage…..
A few weeks ago I had a pleasant chat with a young man using his on Wilmslow Rd…..he knew very little about his machine, but I enjoyed the discussion.
Always worth a try……
Is anybody taking safety steps?
I am sorry to say that words don’t control wheels – as the ongoing discussion of speed limit effectiveness shows. Only the legal implementation of the law is likely to be effective.
