At last, Manchester Road motorway bridge works going ahead

by Lib Dem Team on 29 June, 2016

After months of complaining by the Lib Dem team and others, the completion of the Manchester Road improvements is finally going ahead, with works starting around 4th July 2016 and lasting for approximately 5 weeks.

The works will not only complete the shared footpath/cyclepath but also include maintenance and road resurfacing of the bridge.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works, so please plan your journeys accordingly.

It’s the road they need to widen, not the footpath. I go that way every morning & my God it’s dangerous for cyclists, the vast majority of who are NOT using the proposed new cycle path. Temporary lights for weeks? Kingsway at Barnes down to one lane for weeks? Wish they’d wait for the schools to break up first.

      Jane, you are spot on.

The cycle lane was ill conceived and I guess was down to the LibDems having been given the money, had to spend it.

As a cyclist who uses this road daily, I can say it was better before the LibDems ‘improved’ it.

Great News but long overdue, but please tell me why it is going to take SIX weeks for such a small length of cycle path this should be done in day’s not weeks and can you confirm that the traffic lights will only be in use when there are operatives working on the Site.
Can we also look forward to the start of remedial work on the “nearly new” pavements on and around Cheadle High Street.

  3. Janet Holmes says:

Hello. Unsure if this question has been answered previously, but I will ask it. Who is responsible for inspecting the “nearly new” pavements? I will provide a list which you recently asked for, but what is the point of there is no follow up?
Some time ago I put forward the section between Mumbai Restaurant and White Hart……still waiting.Still hoping.

The person who managed the works on Cheadle high Street should either resign or be sacked. The quality of the work is below par and when compared to other street works in other areas of Greater Manchester falls well below what has been achieved there.

Manchester Rd is now dangerous foe cyclists and car drivers. Why wasn’t this work scheduled with the resurfacing of the same road lat week? More traffic lights and disruption for Cheadle, who on earth plans these things???

  5. David Walker says:

why don’t they wait until the Barnes Hospital road works are complete. Drivers will divert down Manchester road only to be met by more traffic lights. Some better planning required.

    • Lib Dem Team says:

      Hi David,

I’ve asked that question. I think it’s because the works on both sides are small parts of bigger projects or schemes of works. They try to do as much as possible over the summer when the roads are quieter.

However, we have been assured that they will monitor queues on both roads and can take off the lights if there are big problems.

  6. roy says:

Who is going to Monitor the Monitors? we will all get stuck for no real improvement except we can hopefully finally see the back of those BARRIERS, lets hope this is the last ill though out scheme to be thrust on the residents of Cheadle
