Traffic lights works at Eden Park roundabout

by Lib Dem Team on 17 February, 2017

The Council has sent out information on works on the Eden Park/A34 roundabout to improve the junction, including installing traffic lights to make it easier for residents and business users to get on and off the estate. The work is part of the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road and is planned to run from 25th Feb to 23rd April.

There shouldn’t be lane closures, but there will be some overnight road closures needed to complete the work.

It will be frustrating if these are 24/7 signals, rather than peak period or just daytime signals, during weekdays. It will otherwise unnecessarily slow down all traffic on the A34. Or will they be traffic controlled, by vehicles wishing to leave the Eden Park estate only. Will they be ‘smart’ lights?

  2. Alan Gent says:

I can’t believe this is even going ahead. The almighty A34 which shall know no delays (at least at the Gatley junction) will now be brought to a halt while 3 cars turn left or right into Eden Park!
Seriously, traffic heading south simply turn left into EP, traffic heading north goes round the roundabout into EP, that’s the beauty of roundabouts. Why is this going ahead yet we can’t have a right turn filter at the lights? because make no mistake, this will cause large tail backs

I agree. Bonkers! The by-pass was badly designed and took no account of potential development or traffic increases. Is it any wonder there are pollution issues?

  3. Roy says:

Why are these lights being installed I have never seen traffic queuing to leave this estate could it be that a Councillor or Senior Council Employee has moved onto the estate. But if the lights have to be installed why does it take so long, I was in the USA the land of litigation we are lead to believe but disputes this traffic lights were installed over a 4 lane junction without traffic cones or lane closures in 1 day using overhead cables, we should learn from other more efficient countries.
Today there was a road patching gang of 2 plus a 18 ton road signage truck and about 150 cones to do one patch on Kingsway this caused massive traffic queues and pollution.

Why is this work being carried out now,if there is spare money and spare men then get these spare men up the road to the fiasco at Stanley Green and get that job finished before causing more carnage.
Also could you tell me how I can get on the coucils approved list of traffic cone suppliers , I am looking for an opportunity to become a millionaire.

    • Lib Dem Team says:

Hi Roy – there’s a whole programme to deliver the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road scheme by Autumn 2017 and this is part of that scheme.

  5. Chris Hornby says:

Oh for the old days, when ‘sensible’ people ran things:-) Or is that me with my rose coloured spectacles on?
Sorting the A34 out should be a priority and yet greedy developers are queuing up to build huge estates round it putting more and more pressure on the road. I really can’t see that the relief road is going to make much difference.

  6. Yvonne says:

Roundabout closure from 19th March now appearing on local signage. How will residents access the estate during this 4 week closure??

  7. Matthew says:

Cheadle and Gatley council. I commute down this road every morning and every evening.

The traffic buildup at this roundabout is caused by the road works on the relief road further ahead. Before these relief road works began, traffic was free-flow on this roundabout.

You are going to make the traffic jams worse.

These lights are completely unnecessary and a frustrating waste of taxpayers’ money.

    • Matthew says:

PS. I am sorry, I do hate to be critical, but I really cannot see any benefit to putting another traffic light on this road while it is clear to me that a red light every 30 seconds is going to generate another layer of queues, making the daily commute even worse.

  8. Jason says:

First time driving down the a34 towards gatlley since the lights have been installed at Eden point.
Traffic tailback coming from gatley to Eden point at 7:15am??????
Never seen this in the morning in the 10 years of driving down there.
